About Lisa Guthrie
I grew up in Northfield, Minnesota, the town of cows, colleges, and contentment. After attending the University of Minnesota, I moved to Western Washington State, where I lived for the next 30 years. During those years, we lived on Guemes Island, Samish Island, Fidalgo Island, and in the beautiful agricultural region of Skagit Valley. After my son was born in 1985, I began to make block prints of Washington scenes. I moved onto whimsical pen and ink watercolors depicting family life. During this time I taught art classes for Anacortes Youth Arts, offering classes on weekends and during the summers. Skagit County has a strong and supportive art community which I loved being a part of.
Four years ago life brought me back to Minnesota. I have recently begun painting portraits full time, working with gesso, acrylics, paper, charcoal and ink sticks. My subjects include friends, family, and others unknown to me. I am currently working on a series "Growing Up Under The Influence", exploring those at home and in the media who influenced my childhood. I have also included photographs taken in one of my favorite places, Amsterdam.
